Rails has generated masses and masses ( and masses ) of hype. 

Ruby is definitely a nice language. Rails is definitely a nice framework.

... but the hype is just too much.

I intend to port the Rails shopping cart example from the new rails book, 
directly to catalyst - that will be a nice way of providing a side-by-side 
look into both frameworks.
