I second the addition of information about the mailing list and IRC.  You want to tell them the three different ways that people can interact with the rest of the users, email, wiki and IRC.

And I wonder, has anyone mentioned having a prominent link to a "welcome new developer" page on the wiki (not the wiki home page), that could be updated as we learn more about what questions new people have.  That way the content of the new app hello page would not be as critical, as we _could_ just give them a friendly "howdy!", a couple links and point them to both information and community.
