It seems YAML is for python coders who are used to use indention instead of brackets.
As for the tab issue: why not configure your text editor of choice to do e.g. 4 whitespaces if you press the tab key?

My Catalyst apps seem to be initially generated by a too old catalyst.pl which doesn't generate a config file by default so my apps don't have any.
But they don’t need it either.
The only config options I have are LDAP and DB access and those are already in my own config module which uses Config::Simple.
