[Catalyst] unable to download the catalyst

Yes, you need to update your perl.  5.8.0 is over 4 years old!  The
current stable version is 5.8.8 and can be downloaded from the CPAN:

http://search.cpan.org/~nwclark/perl-5.8.8/
