Can you install Devel::SimpleTrace and re-run auth_bootstrap.pl with  
PERL5OPTS="-MDevel::SimpleTrace" in your environment?

That should emit a stack trace (rather than a one line die), which  
would be helpful for diagnosing the issue you're having.
