I don't know if others do it the way you have, but in my limited experience I 
found that an "auto" method is the most appropriate way to intercept people 
going to a protected section with a login screen.  Also, I don't recognize the 
"$c->flash" part of your code; where is flash() defined? -- Darren Duncan
