I've not looked at the code so I can't comment. Your caveats may all be
be accurate, I don't know.

(Any non-100% solution is just fine so long as users understand and are
happy with the functionality offered.)

You went to the trouble of registering the DBIx::Safe module in the
module list in April. How come it's not been released yet?

Personally I'd think it wiser to wait till DBIx::Safe has been released
and reviewed and tested etc etc.
