I don't think mst was trying to talk away contributions of others, but  
saying that you've talked about a *current active maintainer*.

ilmari has been, respectively, for 2† and 4‡ years the only consistently  
active person on the mentioned dists, which remains true even in the face  
of his commit counts being lower than those of previous contributors.
