Just so everyone is on the same page, this is the conversation I had
with Perigrin regarding the article for Moose we sponsored. Please chip
in opinions/suggestions as appropriate:
14:43 -!- Irssi: Starting query in perl with perigrin
14:44 <perigrin> so piers has delivred a rough (nearly finished) draft
of his article
14:44 <perigrin> and is asking for feedback on tone
14:44 <perigrin> and I'm torn
14:45 <perigrin> Do we know what we're gonna try to do with this after
it's written?
14:45 <perigrin> nearly finished meaning "a large chunk of the text is
there" but will probably need some polish and a
technical review
14:46 <mdk> Well I think it was intended to be used with the other Moose
docs and we can then try and publish it to other
magazines as well
14:46 <mdk> It can also be placed on the EPO site with appropriate links
14:47 <mdk> Widest usage possible - it wil be under the same licence as
Perl so if we need to we could slap a Creative
Commons non-commercioal licence on it as well
14:47 <mdk> (that is unless we get it in a magazine then we'll have to
work out some form of restriction yet shareable
licence)
14:48 <perigrin> Looking at it with my Perl-advocate hat on, I want this
published as widely as possible
14:48 <mdk> That's what I feel
14:48 <perigrin> it's a beautiful example of modern perl
14:48 <mdk> That makes me feel even happier
14:48 <perigrin> Looking at this from my Moose @cabal hat on
14:49 <perigrin> I don't want this in teh Moose POD because the
reccomendations it's arguing for have not *yet* settled
into confirmed best practice :)
14:49 <mdk> Hence gioving it freely to orgs and other sites to publish
freely is the best way forward, also making sure
it is linked/on the Perl sites
14:49 <perigrin> yes, and trying to get it into a major technical
magazine or some other similar forum
14:49 <mdk> Well then we start with getting it on other sites and
hopefully move it to Moose Pod as/when it becomes
accepted?
14:50 <mdk> I think getting it to major magazines would be a win
14:51 <mdk> Offering it them with a free licence to print, but keeping
the copyright with the community may be a way of
doing that
14:51 <perigrin> Okay if we're agreed we want a propaganda piece that
works well as a advocacy then I'll tell him this
works wonderfully as it is with the tone.
14:51 <mdk> I would like as many peoiple as possible to benefit, this
should have the EPOs name attached, but it is the
property of all
14:51 <perigrin> yup
14:52 <mdk> Does it have/is it suitable for code samples to be attached?
14:52 <perigrin> it has examples but it is not a tutorial
14:52 <perigrin> if you see what I mean
14:52 <mdk> btw, will post this conversation to the rest of the core
officers - so they know what's been said
14:53 <perigrin> it's using just enough code for illustrative purposes
14:53 * perigrin nods
14:53 <perigrin> that's fine with me
14:53 <perigrin> you were just the most opinionated on the target direction
14:53 <mdk> fair enough. As long as the samples work/relevant/best
possible then its cool
14:53 <mdk> Aye. The best way to use me is as
organisational/distribution of info
14:54 <mdk> Thanks for mentoring this through btw
