[Epo-members-announce] Changes to the Membership Management

Hello all,

Over the past few months we have been quietly working, like busy little
elves, to restructure the way that we manage the Enlightened Perl
Membership. This has taken longer than expected (all the elves had busy
jobs earning crusts of bread and completing many other projects) but it
is finally coming to completion.

What this means:

We will have a new membership management site, where members can
interact with their own membership and manage their own subscription
with a new monthly subscription service from a bank if required or by
the traditional means we already employ (we hope :S ).

We will have a way of interacting with members via newsletters and will
have new people who will act as your willing worker elves to answer
questions and smooth the process of problems away.

While this process has been undertaken and until the new system is up
and secure we have not been issuing renewal notices to Ordinary members
for membership, this is because of the structural overhead of working
out membership charges once the new system is in place. there will be no
additional costs and no one will have to pay late fees for this year. We
will restart all members with a new date making sure we correct anyone
who is caught in the transition (by method of them shouting at us no doubt).

Yearly membership will still be £100 (GBP) but we hope to introduce a
monthly membership of £10 and a way to manage bank transfers and
payments. I will provide more details nearer to the time.

Until that time work continues apace, please don't forget you can use
the irc channels and mailing lists to discuss any matter and the EPO
will still be managing and supporting:

London Perl Workshop
Dynamic Languages Conference
Send-A-Newbie Initiative
Ironman Perl Blogging Challenge (due a site hackathon this year)
Perl Discussion papers
etc.

We will also be hoping to further our community contributions both
structurally and financially and we hope you will join us in this.

Kind regards

Mark
