[MetaCPAN] External/non-web app login

I would like to add support for login to the MetaCPAN API from the Android
app, CPAN Sidekick (
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3Dcom.qubling.sidekick).

Can someone give me some pointers on where to start looking for this?
Eventually, I'd like to support all the features of the MetaCPAN search
site, but for now I'd just be happy to provide an in-app favorites list and
show favorited items with a blue favorites button rather than orange.
