[Perl-org-patches] learn.perl.org tutorial links

Hi all,

I'm reviewing some of the tutorial links from this patch.

These look pretty good:
  * Dave Cross's LPW beginner slides
    http://www.slideshare.net/davorg/lpw-begin
  * Beginning Perl Book
  * Perl for Newbies Series

But I have some reservations about the rest:

* Localized tutorials
  http://perl-begin.org/tutorials/localized/
There are only two here. This seems like a job for the wiki.

* perl.com beginners series
  http://www.perl.com/pub/a/2001/01/begperl1.html
404 -- perl.com was starting a 5.10 series, but they no longer employ
chromatic, so the fate of that is uncertain.

* The perldoc tutorials
  http://perldoc.perl.org/index-tutorials.html
I'm not sure about linking to this ad-hoc list. Maybe to individual
topics.

* perlmeme.org
A motley bunch. Using CGI to print html, indirect object syntax, not
using warnings or strict. Some good tutorials here, but they should be
linked individually by-topic from learn.perl.org.

* showmedo "Introduction to Perl" video
  http://showmedo.com/videos/series?name=perlDevijverPerlIntroSeries
This is sort of clunky and unrehearsed. I like the idea of having
alternate media, but is there a better video?

* Perl Monks' Tutorials
  http://perlmonks.org/index.pl?node=Tutorials
In the first beginner node (http://perlmonks.org/index.pl?node=284175),
the first link to content is to perlintro at the defunct perldoc.com.
Also, I clicked into a random tutorial and on the second click was asked
to choose between three nodes of the same name:
  http://perlmonks.org/index.pl?node_id=918
  http://perlmonks.org/index.pl?node=foreach%20loops

So, I don't want to be sending visitors off into a link soup (they can
get that from google.) There is certainly some good material behind
some of these links, but let's try to pull out some more specific
links. Pick out a few special-topics tutorials from those and send a
link and synopsis?

BTW, my first sketch of a layout is up now:
  http://learnperl.scratchcomputing.com/tutorials/

Thanks,
Eric

But as soon as you hear the Doppler shift dropping in pitch, you know
that they're probably going to miss your house, because if they were on
a collision course with your house, the pitch would stay the same until
impact. As I said, that one's subtle.
