Heyo,

Off the top of my head: how about a "How do I ..." list, which changes
every time you access the page? I'm imagining something like:

> How do I ...
> ... turn a Perl program into an executable?
> ... backup my Twitter feed on my computer?
> ... make a tag cloud for photos on my computer?
> ... publish a module to CPAN?

Something goal based, that might get someone with only a vague
interest in Perl to think, "hey, that's something I'd like to have",
go through the tutorial and learn more about Perl - and at the very
least, they end up with a tag cloud generator.

cheers,
Gaurav
