I put out a plea on -dev for this not that long ago, since nginx does
require this branch to work to allow non-/ based apps to function.

My proposal was to integrate it into 5.8, and just smoke the engines
that have tests.  Andy G's engines have adequate tests to catch the
various cases, so probably a good route to go down that way.

I've not done anything with the engines, so my opinion probably
shouldn't count for much.
