Most east-Asian languages don't have the same concept of plurals.  You
don't add the "s", so it would just be "I have 1 apple" or "I have 10
apple".

In Japanese (the only east-Asian language I know) the word order is
also different than, in that it is Subject-Object-Verb.  So the word
order is "I (subject) Apple (object) Have (verb)".  Japanese also is
more difficult to translate numerical things because of other points
in the language, but this method is plenty suitable.

All of this is why I use the "stubs" for any complex translations...
which I'm too lazy to ever finish, so my apps always end up
half-translated with silly stub translations.

In other words, my advice on how to localize and internationalize is
probably not to be followed... I'm simply sharing my experiences about
what works for me.
