I have little to add other than agreement.  Publishing a list of recommended 
modules to extend the core is valuable, but distributing (or facilitating the 
distribution of) that extended core will be orders of magnitude more valuable.

Hopefully the infrastructure for doing so will generalize to well-written 
applications.
